ART IN MOTION: A CLIMATE CALL

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Art in Motion: A Climate Call invites creatives of all disciplines to apply for a collaborative, community-engaged dance project that explores the intersections of art, movement, and climate justice. This project welcomes experienced artists and novices and aims to spark meaningful dialogue and inspire collective climate action through creative expression. Six, day-long creative labs will occur over three weekends from August to October for an immersive, residency-style experience. Each lab combines natural elements and time outdoors with multidisciplinary arts workshops and choreographic exercises, during which each collaborator will document and deepen their relationship with the natural world while contributing to the shared creative vision of the group. Mediums we will explore include nature collage, land art, climate poetry, songwriting, dance, and botanical printing. Lodging and most meals will be provided.

CALL FOR COLLABORATORS

I am looking for creatives who are passionate about using their voice to address the climate crisis (creatives experienced in dance, printmaking, collaging, painting, sculpture, poetry, and songwriting are strongly encouraged to apply). Selected collaborators will co-create original visual and choreographic works that contribute to a culminating public event. While I intend to work with some professionally trained dancers during the project, the majority of collaborators will be community members who are new to, coming back to, or curious about dance.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to novice, emerging, and established creatives.

  • This project is intergenerational, and collaborators from across the age spectrum will be selected.

  • Creatives from all disciplines are welcome to apply: visual art, dance, performance art, sculpture, multimedia, writing etc. No prior dance experience necessary.

  • Must be available to participate in all labs (10:00 AM - 4:00 PM daily: August 23-24, September 13-14, October 4-5)

  • Creatives who are willing to be part of a culminating public event (to be determined by the group) will be given priority. This could include a public performance, exhibition, artist talk, or installation. This event must take place in 2025 and can be in-person and/or online.

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from lodging and research sites, or be willing to carpool.
